I get no driver picture or car picture or car make logo beside the driver name during racing, even when choosing that.

Hm, I can't find where to configure that anymore. You tell me?

I think it used to be under Race screen settings. I've seen a Youtube tutorial showing that anyway. Maybe not possible in the latest version?

I often see the driver name and besides it they have either the car logo, car picture or driver photo. Even pictures on Smartrace.de are showing that. But how?

This setting has been moved from settings > driving to the timetable widget settings (accessible by tapping the three little dots in the top right corner of the timetable widget). Could you try to change it there?
