#19063 Average lap time not accurate

Hi Paul,

the average laptime is calculated from the most recent 50 laps across all history events from this car on this track. It's not the same as the lap times you used which are only from one race. Maybe I got your question wrong?

Hey Marc,

I believe you've understood it perfectly. Just to help me better understand, these happen to be the last 50 laps for this car however I have done more laps with this car - before this race - but I did not save them. So is it the case that the fastest and average laps shown are the best average for that track and car as opposed to the race that they where saved against?

I must say I really like the data your providing for my cars, I am just trying to better understand it. Obviously if this is all by design then it's not a bug. I do really appreciate and I am surprised you got back at the weekend but thank you.

Great Job!!

Sorry Paul, I just realized that I wrote "most recent 50 laps", which is wrong. The fastest 50 lap times across all saved events from this car are used to calculate the average lap time. Sorry for the confusion :-) Does that help?

Thanks for your kind words!

Ah OK, it's confusing because the race itself is 50 laps and your also saying that the app takes the latest 50 laps to calculate these stats. So I think maybe there is a bug...

I only have one 50 lap race saved against this car.

I am base lining all my cars with SmartRace using a 50 lap race. However with this car I had 2-3 failed runs as I needed to change its setup so paused and then restarted the race a few times before finally running the full 50 laps. So to be clear there is only one 50 lap race saved against this car - see screen shot.

Hm, I think the issue might be the way how the laps are saved. Actually the average is calculated from the track records for this car. Now not every lap is saved to the track records database. Only if a lap is faster than the previously fastest record, it is saved to the database. This makes me wonder if the average lap time might be too misleading and should be removed...

So are you saying that there are up to 50 fastest laps saved to the database? The reason I ask is your reference to 50 laps above and the fact that by chance my baseline race is also 50 laps.

I would like to make the case for average lap being a valuable metric as it shows consistency. However I think it is best set against a race or qualifying event and should be stored as a value against that event so you can see how your progressing - driving better.

The attached files show the in app average and also the exported CSV data with a manually calculated average for the same car - shown below lap 1. This is a single 50 lap race, indeed the total laps for this car is 50 so no other data. As you can see it matches.

The second file for the above post.

I agree Paul, I think there should be two changes

1. Display the average lap time for each participant in the details of each event in the history
2. Use the lap times from all events of the currently selected track to calculate the average lap time in the car details view.

What do you think?
